A benchmark in gastronomy since 1900, the Michelin Guide recognises the finest restaurants in France and across the globe each year by awarding them a Star or a Bib Gourmand. In addition to these prestigious awards, the Guide's inspectors recommend several restaurants throughout the year. Many establishments in Lyon are mentioned among this long list, confirming Lyon's status as the world capital of gastronomy.
Michelin-starred restaurants
Following in the footsteps of Mère Brazier, the first woman to earn three stars for her two restaurants, and Paul Bocuse, the ‘Chef of the Century’ who held onto his three stars for an unprecedented 53 years, Lyon's chefs are continuing the tradition of displaying one or more stars on their restaurant fronts. There are 14 Michelin-starred restaurants in Lyon and the surrounding area in total.

Included among these are no fewer than 58 restaurants in Lyon and the surrounding area, ranging from traditional Lyonnais bouchons to bistronomic restaurants.
