For several years now, the Lyon culinary scene has been buzzing. A wave of new talents has been popping up around Lyon, bringing bistronomic (and sometimes gastronomic) cuisine into new territory. Here is a few of our top picks of young Lyon chefs - who knows, perhaps there are some future Michelin stars among them!

Who said that Lyon was only about bouchons? True to its title as international capital of gastronomy (bestowed by food critic Pierre Curnonsky in 1925), Lyon isn’t resting on its laurels. This hotbed of talent is bubbling with activity, carrying on the legacy of the "Mères Lyonnaises" and Paul Bocuse, who forged Lyon’s reputation.
Here, up-and-coming chefs are already making buzz, especially at major events like Sirha and Lyon Street Food Festival. And some have been noticed by prestigious gastronomy guides such as Gault et Millau, which awards Toques (a scale ranging from 1 Toque for “gourmet” to 5 Toques for “exceptional”) and the Michelin Guide, which not only hands out their all-important stars to the most remarkable restaurants each year, but also the “Bib Gourmand”, for restaurants with excellent value for money.
Here is a selection of restaurants where you can experience the new generation of Lyon cuisine:
- Grégory Bonaccini at Canopée : one of the “109”, from the book titled “109 - Le Sang neuf de la gastronomie française” published by Gault et Millau, which presents 109 portraits of chefs who have breathed fresh air into the culinary scene over the past year and 109 recipes. (1 Toque)
2 Rue Major Martin, Lyon 1er
- Carla Kirsch Lopez at Alebrije : one of the “109”, from the book titled “109 - Le Sang neuf de la gastronomie française” published by Gault et Millau. (1 Toque)
2 rue Belfort, Lyon 4e
