Second day in Lyon

From the Croix-Rousse hill…

After exploring Vieux Lyon and the ‘praying hill’ on your first day, head for the ‘working hill’: the Croix-Rousse on this second day. To get up there, we recommend taking metro line C, one of the steepest in the world with a gradient of 17 per cent. Once at the top, you’ll discover a traditional neighbourhood with a village-like atmosphere and walk in the footsteps of the canuts, the silk workers who made Lyon famous.

… At the tip of the peninsula

In the early afternoon, head towards the Confluence district (via metro line A, then the T1 tram). From the Musée des Confluences – whose architecture is as striking as its collections – to the river landing stage, explore this former industrial wasteland, which has been completely redeveloped with buildings boasting a futuristic look.

To round off this lovely stroll at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône, hop aboard the Navigône, the river shuttle that takes you on an idyllic 40-minute cruise along the Saône. As you make your way to the Vaise Industrie terminus, take in the sights of Lyon, its pretty footbridges, its Florentine-style buildings and its iconic monuments.
