Dancing on a razor’s edge — the calm before the storm — as choreographers Childs, Dawson, and Forsythe confront the chaos of the world. In this performance, minimalist design meets the poetry of movement.

In Actus..., Lucinda Childs, a legend of American postmodern dance, crafts a minimalist solo for a dancer of the Lyon Opera Ballet. Set to Bach’s Actus Tragicus, the piece reflects on humanity’s yearning for meaning in the face of a chaotic world, with tones of anxiety, tenderness, and melancholy.

the Ballet returns to Enemy in the Figure by William Forsythe. Dancers move between order and chaos, shadow and light, mystery and the urgency of motion. Set to the driving tempo of a frenetic race, this sharp, vivid piece is the perfect close to a virtuosic program that dances right on the edge.
