With the hotter weather, no one feels like eating large meals and oven-baked dishes, opting for cold meals of gazpacho, raw veggies and cold cuts instead!

As soon as the fine weather returns, we're all seized by the irrepressible urge to kick off our shoes and enjoy a picnic. Luckily Lyon is not lacking in parks, and friendly green open spaces!

A stopover in the heart of nature in the parks and gardens of Lyon

In addition to the more traditional Parc de la Tête d’Or and Banks of Rhône, you might also consider a barbecue in Grand Parc Miribel Jonage, or a romantic picnic in the Rosary garden (Jardins du Rosaire) overlooking the rooftops of the city!

In the 9th arrondissement, Parc du Vallon is a great place to relax in too. This 33 hectares former fruit orchard now boasts 3 different landscapes: a public garden to the north, three large clearings in the centre and undergrowth in the southern part.

Ideally located on the tip of the Presqu’île, Grand Parc de Saône and its water gardens provide a pleasantly refreshing environment, and are ideal for a break.

Fancy a surprise and something new? Head for the Jardin des Curiosités with its hidden garden, or the Jardin des Chartreux with its uninterrupted view of Fourvière hill.

In the Croix-Rousse area, Parc de la Cerisaie unfurls its wild environment all the way to the Saône embankment.

A gourmet break close to Lyon's heritage

Lovers of good food and heritage sites can enjoy a meal in true Roman-style while sitting on the tiered steps of the Roman Theatres!

Opt for a more futuristic and pastoral break in the garden below the Musée des Confluences. The sumptuous courtyards of the Grand-Hôtel Dieu are also ideal for a picnic. In particular, you can take advantage of the deckchairs installed during the summer!

You could also munch on a packet of crisps while admiring the old military fort in Parc Blandan. It's ideal for very young children, with lots of play areas where they can let off steam!

For a trendy picnic, the roof terrace of the Halles Paul Bocuse car park offers a relaxing setting with a snack bar on site.

A tasty moment on the water

If your idea of a picnic is of a more refined affair, then treat yourself to some relaxing alone time by renting a boat from Cap Confluent (you don't need a licence). You can then climb on board and go with the flow! Of course we remember to collect our waste, nature relies on us all.

Have a nice meal!
