Located in Vieux-Lyon, just a stone's throw from Saint-Paul station, the Académie Hôtel is housed in a 15th-century Renaissance building. This unique, fully renovated hotel, a testament to 7 centuries of hospitality, offers a skilful blend of the contemporary and the restoration of heritage.
The archives reveal that this building has probably been welcoming travellers ever since it was built. This unique heritage building has now been completely renovated to become the Académie Hôtel.
A year's work was needed to renovate the building into a themed hotel with 12 rooms and suites. The hotel's interior courtyard has been restored to its original splendour, giving the establishment a unique character. Other ornaments have been restored, such as the sculpted coats of arms that could be those of Estienne Guerrier, a hotelier who occupied the premises from the early 15th century. Finally, in some rooms, travellers will have the pleasure of observing paintings dating from the 15th century, discovered during archaeological excavations and entirely restored by the Atelier Royal.
The Académie Hôtel draws its inspiration from the eponymous places of learning and erudition where the world's most eminent specialists gather to reflect and debate in the various fields of human knowledge. Each floor develops the theme of an Academy: the Académie Française, the Académie des Belles-Lettres, the Académie des Beaux-Arts or the Académie des Sciences. Each of the 12 rooms and suites offers the Academicians a space for free discussion. The rooms and suites are full of nods to the Academicians who shape our world.
