Three contemporary dance sensations are gathered: Forsythe, De Keersmaeker, and the van Opstal pair. Few companies are able to provide such a powerful overview in the course of a single night.
La Nuit transfigurée
Premiered in 2014 –
created for the Compagnie Rosas
Production by the Opéra de Lyon
Coproduction with Dance Biennale
Reprise
By moonlight, a woman confesses to her lover that she is carrying another man’s child. The young Schoenberg composed a now-famous post-Romantic score, celebrated for its poetry and unbridled lyricism. La Nuit transfigurée set Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s imagination ablaze: she choreographed it as a boldly passionate love story – one that unfolds under the moonlight of a transfigured night. Night, too, has the power to blur the lines of reality.
Workwithinwork
Premiered in 1998 –
created for the Frankfurt Ballet
Reprise
William Forsythe has ceaselessly challenged his native language – classical ballet – in order to forge his own grammar. With Workwithinwork, one of the most influential American choreographers of his generation sweeps dancers and audiences alike into a continuum of sensation that constantly defies expectation and radiates modernity. Set to Luciano Berio’s Duos for Two Violins, this virtuosic pointe work transforms the academic vocabulary into a true playground, shaping an ever-evolving laboratory.
North Sea
Premiered in 2027 – created
for the Lyon Opera Ballet
The van Opstal siblings – Imre, the sister, and Marne, the brother – are the rising sun of the world of European dance. As part of a cycle devoted to the elements, the two Dutch artists created for our Ballet a work in which their splendidly organic language, tinged with neoclassical accents, explores the way human beings are shaped by their environment. In collaboration with visual artist Boris Acket—whose imagery is strikingly alive, poised between material presence and poetic immateriality—this dance-performance continues to reimagine the very space of dance.
