A circus artist, director and physical theatre practitioner, Justine Berthillot creates hybrid forms that blend dance, theatre, circus and the visual arts. Her initial training as a gymnast, her career as an aerialist and her studies in philosophy have quite naturally led her to use choreography to tell stories. Without imposing her views, but with conviction and a wealth of imagination, she tackles subjects rooted in contemporary society. A choreographed piece for four dancer-acrobats and an opera singer, *Mermaids — Sweat your prayers* draws on the mythical figure of the mermaid, a popular and political symbol, particularly of feminist and environmental struggles. By blending movement and imagery, song and electronic music, the all-female artistic team creates a living, visual, musical and immersive poem. Not to be missed!
