Dancing as a form of liberation, to give voice to what is no longer heard.

In a diptych created for the Maison de la Danse, the Lyon Opera Ballet presents two pieces that have recently been added to its repertoire: *The Grey Area* by David Dawson and *WE NEED SILENCE* by Katerina Andreou. One set to the ethereal and hypnotic electronic music of Niels Lanz, the other to a frenzied and utterly haunting percussive rhythm: both share the same desire to push boundaries and plunge into the unknown. With *The Grey Area*, the work that launched his international career, David Dawson – a leading figure in contemporary classical ballet – displays a choreographic style characterised by fluid and supple lines. In a suspended no man’s land, the dancers seem liberated from all gravity, from all weight. With *WE NEED SILENCE*, Katerina Andreou calls for the same suspension, which fosters a sense of liberation. In it, she develops a vibrant movement language of unceasing dynamism, driven by a constant desire to share a collective and deeply infectious joy.
