Airt de Famille

Since 2022, AiRT DE FAMILLE has taken over a different Lyon landmark each year and turned it into a playground for emerging artists. For this 5th edition, the festival stays put for a second year running, on the rooftop of the Centre d'Échanges de Lyon Perrache — but the space is being completely reinvented.

The festival's DNA rests on three ideas: reuse, participation and transformation. Before the exhibition even opens, locals and visitors are invited to hand over a personal object — a bike, a lamp, a childhood toy — to one of the artists. That object becomes raw material for an artwork, then goes back to its owner once the festival ends, completely transformed. It's a way of making the public part of the creative process, not just spectators.

Inside, expect large-scale immersive installations rather than paintings on a wall: rooms you walk through, sculptures you can't miss, corridors and thresholds built around this year's theme — doors, as passages, transformations and thresholds to cross. Around 40 artists from the omart incubation programme are showing work, with the overall artistic direction handled by duo Les Têtes Dures alongside illustrator Piment Martin, who've designed the entrance as a "boarding gate" meant to set the tone from the first step inside.

Alongside the exhibition, the festival also runs a full events programme — guided tours with the artists, workshops, flea markets, open-mic nights, Halloween activities, and more — plus l'omarterie, a free, year-round gallery on the same site featuring a solo show by a different artist every month.
