The new exhibition at the Musée Soieries Brochier offers a behind-the-scenes look at the house through its iconic gold lamé. From haute couture to artistic creation and innovation, gold guides visitors through 130 years of craftsmanship.
The exhibition brings together exceptional pieces created for Paul Poiret, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Dior, Geoffrey Beene, Vicky Tiel, Arnold Scaasi, and James Galanos, and also features fabrics developed this year for Rick Owens.
Artistic creation also plays a significant role in the exhibition. Alongside works related to Miró and Calder is a monumental piece by Thomas Henriot, woven by Brochier Soieries using gold threads on an 18,230-hook Jacquard loom.
The exhibition thus reveals the often-unseen work that precedes the creation of a dress or a work of art: the creation of the fabric itself. It also shows how these skills, inherited from the history of Lyon’s silk industry, continue to evolve today and pave the way for new applications in the field of innovation.
Located in the heart of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu, the Musée Soieries Brochier extends this exploration with weaving demonstrations on a Jacquard loom from 1840, offering a glimpse into the techniques and craftsmanship of a Lyon silk house that is still in operation today.
