Azur and Asmar: a film concert

Inspired by *The Tales of the Thousand and One Nights*, *Azur and Asmar* explores social issues such as social inequality and the discovery of foreign cultures through the story of two foster brothers – Azur, the fair-haired, blue-eyed boy, and Asmar, the dark-haired, black-eyed boy – raised by the same woman in a green and flower-filled land. Brutally separated by life as they emerge from childhood, they are both driven by the desire to find the Fairy of the Djinns and embark on an epic journey rich in lessons that will ultimately reunite them. Under the baton of Frank Strobel, the Orchestre national de Lyon will perform Gabriel Yared’s original score live – specially rearranged by Robin Melchior for this format – in perfect synchronisation with the film’s screening on the big screen. They will be joined on stage by soloists Mohamed Najem on the ney (Middle Eastern flute) and Yousef Zayed on the oud (Middle Eastern lute).
