Built in September 2011 by the city of Caluire et Cuire and the French Rose Society, the Saint-Clair botanical rose garden displays most of roses families, including wild roses and the first domesticated roses (also called cultivars).
Built in September 2011 by the city of Caluire et Cuire and the French Rose Society, the Saint-Clair botanical rose garden displays most of roses families, including wild roses and the first domesticated roses (also called cultivars). Scattered on 400 linear meters and more than 1500 m², this rose garden is organised around 150 plots. It exhibits around 100 species of wild roses out of the 130 wild species available around the world. This collection is a good representation of the natural biodiversity available in the Northern Hemisphere.
Showroom of the genus Rosa, the Saint-Clair rose garden presents the four subgenus Hulthemia, Eurosa, Platyrhodon and Hesperhodos, and nine of the ten sections of the subgenus Eurosa: Banksianae, Caninae, Carolinae, Cinnamomae, Gallicanae, Indicae, Laevigatae, Pimpinellifoliae, Synstylae. The presence of these species makes it a unique place and one of the major rose garden in Europe.
A path is available to discover the creative design of the rose garden over more than one kilometer.
