A century-old brasserie, Le Cintra offers a menu that draws on local Lyonnais produce to provide an authentic culinary experience in a setting featuring carved wood panelling. This historic establishment boasts one of the most beautiful terraces in Lyon.
Founded in 1921 by merchants from the town of Sintra, near Lisbon, this brasserie now serves regional cuisine. Saucisson brioché, foie gras, coq au vin, calf's head, andouillette gratin, lobster risotto and scallop cake: the menu draws heavily on local Lyonnais produce to offer an authentic culinary experience in an original setting featuring carved wood panelling, stained glass windows and oak barrels.
Located opposite the Chamber of Commerce on Place de la Bourse, Le Cintra is steeped in history. For many years, the bar was frequented by Lyon's bourgeoisie and politicians. The cream of the ‘voyoucratie’ (thugocracy), such as the famous Gang des Lyonnais, would meet there, as would the incorruptible Judge Renaud, alongside bankers and merchants from the old Cordeliers market halls.
Many film scenes have been shot in this legendary establishment: ‘L'Armée des Ombres’ with Lino Ventura and Simone Signoret, ‘La fille coupée en deux’ by Claude Chabrol, ‘Alice et le maire’ with Fabrice Lucchini and ‘L'Homme sans nom’ with Frédéric Diefenthal.
Open every day of the year, including 1 May, the brasserie also offers one of the most beautiful shaded terraces in the heart of the city centre and hosts jazz concerts at the weekend around its piano bar.
