Lyon's hotel bars with a view
To enjoy an incredible panoramic view, ascend the 32 floors (using the lift of course) of the Part-Dieu tower (affectionately called 'Le Crayon', or 'the pencil' by locals) and take a seat in the Celest Bar to enjoy a cocktail or glass of champagne.
In the Presqu’île district, Le Melhor, the bar of the Sofitel and the Michelin-starred restaurant Aux 3 Dômes, offers a superb view over the left bank and the Rhône.
Prefer a cosy ambiance?
Head for "Côté Bellecour" at Le Royal: a red velvet and glossy black interior, dotted with welcoming armchairs, and cocktail menus to die for. And it's next to Place Bellecour!
Another option to consider: the Bar du Carlton, for cocktails and champagne in an intimate setting. These are ideal places for a quiet chat, but remember, whatever is said in the bar stays in the bar!

A bar in one of Lyon's historical landmarks
Lyon is home to an invaluable architectural heritage, as evidenced by its many monuments. Some of these have now become vibrant venues in their own right, where you can stay, eat and enjoy a drink.
On Fourvière Hill, a former convent now houses the renowned Fourvière Hotel and, within it, the bar Les Collections. Located 500 metres from the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, this almost hidden gem with its cosy décor hosts musical evenings on the third Thursday of every month.
This time, we’re heading to another hill in Lyon – the Croix-Rousse – and making our way to Les Terrasses du Fort, the terrace bar at Fort Saint-Laurent. This former military fort is now one of Lyon’s trendiest spots. It’s also one of the few places where you can enjoy the terrace even in winter, thanks to the installation of heated, transparent domes that create a cosy, mountain-like atmosphere.
Finaly, this selection would not be complete without mentioning the superb bar of the Intercontinental hotel, beneath the huge dome of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu. It is really spectacular!
