Summer 2026: where to go for a dip in Lyon and the surrounding area?

Summer is here and the days are getting hot! To cool down, here is a snapshot of swimming pools in Greater Lyon and a few bathing spots in the surrounding area.

Pools in Lyon

The summer season is here and opening times are expanding!

  • Centre Nautique Tony Bertrand: the most iconic, on the banks of the Rhône. From 8 may until  31 august 2026.
  • Piscine du LOU - UCPA Aqua Stadium : the most recent outdoor swimming pool, near the Matmut Stadium. From the first of July to 30 August 2026.
  • Piscine Tronchet : near the Tête d'Or park. Open from 22 june to 30 August 2026.
  • Piscine Municipale Jean Mermoz: an outdoor swimming pool with a water slide in the 8th arrondissement. Open from the first of july to 30 August 2026.
  • Piscine Saint-Exupéry : on the Croix-Rousse plateau. Open from 22 june to 30 August 2026.
  • Piscine de la Duchère: an outdoor swimming pool, next to the Duchère Stadium. From 25 June until 30 August 2026.

Swimming pools in Lyon metropolitan area

Whether you live in Lyon or are visiting the city, swimming pools and water parks in the metropolitan area are open now for a refreshing dip!

  • Centre Nautique Etienne-Gagnaire in Villeurbanne: Open every day from 30 June to 30 August 2026, except on 14 July and 15 August 
  • Centre Aquatique Les Vagues in Meyzieu: several pools, a lagoon, water jets and Jacuzzi. Ages 3 and up. Open every day during summer holidays. 
  • Centre Nautique Pierre Mendès-France in Saint-Priest: Open every day from 29 June to 30 August. Access without reservation. Various activities on reservation.
  • Centre Nautique André Sousi in Bron: Summer hours from June 29 to August 30 2026. Three pools, including one Olympic-size pool, and relaxation areas. Many activities and classes available by reservation.
  • La Piscine Isabelle Jouffroy in Caluire-et-Cuire : Summer hours from June 20 to August 31 2026. 1 lap pool, 1 recreational pool, 1 wading pool, 2 saunas, 1 steam room, a 28-meter water slide, and a cafeteria. Various activities available.
  • Piscine Origami in Rillieux-La-Pape : 1 sports pool, 1 leisure pool, 1 activities pool, saunas, 1 hammam, 1 paddling pool and outdoors areas with playground and solarium. No reservation required. Open every day during summer holidays. Closed for maintenance from 23 August to 18 September. 
  • La Piscine le Kubdo in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon : Summer hours from June 30 to August 30 2026. One lap pool, one recreational pool, a wading pool, and a 1,100-square-meter outdoor area open from April to September.
  • Centre nautique de Lyon, Saint-Fons et Vénissieux : June 13–August 28 2026. A wading pool with water features, a shallow pool for toddlers, and a pool with both shallow and deep areas. This outdoor water park, open only during the summer season, features a wading pool, a landscaped playground with two play structures, and a grassy relaxation area.

Reminder: a bathing cap must be worn by everybody in Greater Lyon’s swimming pools.

Natural bathing spots less than an hour from Lyon

Please note that it is strictly prohibited to swim in the Rhône and the Saône in Lyon! Instead, go for a swim in one of the lakes or other bodies of water listed below.    

Grand Parc Miribel Jonage

With its four developed and supervised beaches, located just a few kilometers from downtown Lyon, it is the go-to spot for natural swimming and recreation for residents of Lyon and the greater Lyon area. Atol Beach open from June 1 through August 30, Monday through Saturday (9 a.m.–9 p.m.) and until 8 p.m. on Sundays ; Morlet Beach is open from May 23 through August 30 2026, daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Fontanil Beach is open from June 6 through August 30 (lifeguards on duty from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM) and finally, Baraka Beach is open from June 27 through August 30, with lifeguards on duty daily from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Access: take bus N80 towards Grand Parc Miribel Jonage. (from 27 June to 30 August 2026)

Lac de Bordelan in Villefranche-sur-Saône

This welcoming natural setting has something to appeal to the whole family, with its sandy beach, large lawn, and playground. Open from July 1 to August 31.

Prices: €3,50 for adults, €2 for 6-12 year-olds, free for children under 6.
Access: TER train, 115 and 118 bus or A6 motorway, towards Villefranche-sur-Saône and then Route de Saint-Bernard.
