A bit of family-friendly culture
Admission to the Lugdunum Museum is free on the 1st Sunday of every month! The timing couldn't be more perfect, and there's something to please everyone in the family at this intergenerational museum that tells the story of ancient life in Lugdunum (which was the name of Lyon in the Gallo-Roman era) through 10 different themes. It also offers a variety of activities for children.
Most museums offer workshops, guided tours for families, and guidebooks or toys for kids to make their visit more exciting. And let's not forget the nature and gardening workshops at Lyon's botanical garden!

City or nature walks
Sports-loving grandparents will love our wide selection of walks and trails. Urbanites will want to veer directly to Tête d’Or Park, which has its own zoo and botanical garden – it's a timeless classic that never fails to charm visitors!. Another option is the banks of the Rhône river (perhaps by bike?) or the banks of the Saône river.
Those looking for a change of scenery should bring their little band of travellers to the hills of Monts d’Or (they’re steep!) or to Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, the Beaujolais region, the lake-studded Dombes region, the medieval town of Pérouges, or to the caves at La Balme. Choose a theme (such as animals, amazing landscapes, local anecdotes, or puzzle-solving) to pique your grandchildren's interest (and avoid any complaints of feeling tired).
Here are just a few ideas of walks and outings where you can find wildlife parks, puzzle-solving games, and fun-filled activities.
Take a delicious break
After all that fun, everyone will be ready for a good meal!
But please, whatever you do, steer clear of those fast food chains! We have so much wonderful cuisine on offer in Lyon. Do they love hamburgers? Lyon has some amazing hamburgers made by hand with local ingredients. Do they go mad for waffles? What children don't! Quick, easy-to-prepare meals are fun for kids. And spending too much time sitting around a table with children can tax anyone's patience!
Here are some of the best restaurants in Lyon to enjoy quick but delicious meals.
A quick snack break in one of our coffee shops will perk up their day (and yours as well!).
One last bit of advice on keeping kids happy:
If you will be out for several hours, remember to bring a picnic meal, snacks, and drinks to keep your grandchildren’s spirits high throughout the day.
We wish you an unforgettable time with your grandchildren in Lyon!
These tips also apply to any parents visiting Lyon with their children!
