Beaujolais and pierres dorées: wine tours

In Lyon, it is said that 3 rivers flow through the city: the Rhône, the Saône and... Beaujolais!

Set off from Place Bellecour on a half- or one-day tour of the wine trail in a comfortable minivan (max. 8 passengers) driven by a wine expert, who will share their extensive knowledge of this Beaujolais region just a few minutes north of Lyon. 

The tour takes you through several picturesque villages, including Régnié, Villié-Morgon and Fleurie. It also includes a stop-off at the medieval village of Oingt, known as one of the most beautiful villages of France, where you can discover the meaning of such unforgettable street names as “Tyr-Laine”, “Coupe-Jarret” and “Trayne-Cul”.

Beaujolais's Golden stone? This bright, ochre-coloured limestone is tinted by iron oxides. In the past, each village had its own quarry. Up until the First World War, some quarries supplied the Beaujolais and Lyon area, and even Switzerland!

10 Beaujolais wines? Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Chenas, Moulin à Vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Côte de Brouilly and Brouilly. To remember them all, memorise this French sentence: "Alors Je Cherche Mon Frère Chez Ma Respectable Cousine Berthe".
