Almost a rite of passage, exploring deeply personal—and therefore universal—themes: the body as both ally and enemy, and the paradox—sometimes stimulating, sometimes painful—between how we perceive ourselves and how others see us. In this intimate and powerful solo performance, Sofiane Chalal narrates and dances his way through an extraordinary journey, grappling with a body that doesn’t quite fit the mould.
Born into a family of dancers, on stage since the age of seven, a hip-hop world runner-up and a performer for choreographers such as Farid Berki and Brahim Bouchelaghem, he has constantly blurred the boundaries between styles. With a unique style blending the power of hip-hop with the fragility of mime, Big Sof lays himself bare here. Combining dance, text and imagery, ‘Ma part d’ombre’ becomes a sensitive self-portrait in which the body becomes a declaration of freedom and, with grace and gentleness, challenges preconceptions.
