Decorated and illuminated places in Lyon

Outside the markets, you can marvel at the illuminations and decorations installed throughout the city. On the Croix-Rousse plateau, enjoy the breathtaking view of Lyon from the sheltered Terrace of Fort Saint-Laurent, which is like a giant snow globe. On your way back down the hill, stroll past the shops on the slopes which are taking part in a 'starry' window display competition. Vote for your favourite display on the Instagram account @lavitrinedespentes.

Stroll along Rue de la République on the Presqu'Île beneath the illuminated 'Paseo d'Hiver' display. Installed for the Festival of Lights, this artwork will be on display until 4 January 2025. Continue the magic on the same street in front of the Printemps department store, whose windows are decorated in a New York Christmas theme. The festive atmosphere continues throughout December, with entertainment including a magic show on 13 December and a visit from Father Christmas, as well as a performance by a contortionist 

Just a few steps away, you can visit the magnificent Grand Hôtel-Dieu, whose courtyards are adorned with festive decorations, including a giant Christmas tree, garlands and illuminated toys. This open-air stroll combines heritage, a magical atmosphere and a shopping experience, so don't miss it!   

Experience the magic of Christmas outside Lyon!

Take a step back and experience the magic of Christmas in the area surrounding Lyon. In the Ain region, experience a unique Christmas atmosphere in the medieval town of Pérouges. On 13 and 14 December 2025, this village will host one of the region's most famous Christmas markets, with around a hundred artisans, designers, and producers in an illuminated setting of stone buildings. Special shuttle buses will be provided to help manage the crowds and take you to the village.

Further south, in Diémoz in northern Isère, you can enter a magical world at the Bois des Lutins. Every year, this nature and family leisure park is lit up with thousands of decorations and twinkling lights. The Legends Trail, shows, ice rink and fireworks are sure to delight visitors of all ages.
