The release of Pulp's eighth album in 2025 – after 24 years of silence – marked not only the spectacular return of one of the most unique bands in British pop, but also a new twist in a story that has had no shortage of them. Formed in the late 1970s, Pulp was largely ignored until the mid-1990s, when the songwriting talents of the charismatic Jarvis Cocker and the elegance of his band made them the centrepiece of a burgeoning British scene. Ambitious albums, hits – including the timeless Common People – and fiery concerts cemented their legend as outsiders turned pop icons, who are still going strong today.
