Over the past 20 years, the Quebec songwriter has become a master in the art of fitting rich orchestrations into the perfectly proportioned framework of pop songs, without ever forgetting to leave room for sighs and breaths. This is striking on the recent Uh Oh, his eighth album, written after a significant incident: for three months, the singer lost his (sublime) voice. In response, Patrick Watson imagined an album where the noise of the world fades away, leaving plenty of space for voices: his own – rediscovered – and those of guests for duets recorded on an essentially acoustic basis. On stage, the singer knows better than anyone how to recreate this intimate and enchanting atmosphere.
