A crossing of the Black Atlantic.

DJ, producer, musician, lecturer, and radio personality, James Stewart has mastered the art of connecting continents, eras, and people through music. A specialist in the Black Atlantic, a concept he borrows from the English academic Paul Gilroy, he delves deeply into the music of the Black diaspora and tirelessly explores the territories of this expanding African meta-continent, constantly defined and redefined by countless Afro-American hybridizations. With a style that is both atmospheric and erudite, and drawing on records collected from both sides of the Atlantic, from Sierra Leone to New Orleans and from São Paulo to Kinshasa, James Stewart transports us to an alternative geography of dance, struggle, and Atlantic trance.
