Success came late in Cesária Évora's life – she was 50 when the French public first embraced her in the early 1990s – but it was dazzling. Europe and America succumbed to morna, a melancholic, swaying genre typical of Cape Verde, of which she became the undisputed queen. When she died in 2011, Cesária Évora left behind a wonderful legacy that her musicians have been passionately passing on ever since. The current line-up of the Cesária Évora Orchestra includes Mayra Andrade, Elida Almeida, Ceuzany, Lucibela and Teófilo Chantre, the finest ambassadors of Cape Verdean music today.
