Between June and August, open-air cinema screenings are back in Lyon. From short films to animated features and cinematic masterpieces, it's time to curl up on a deckchair and enjoy some open-air cinema.

Festival Cinéma sous les étoiles
"Cinéma sous les étoiles" is back again this season! Since 2001, this festival has been offering free screenings based on an original theme. Located on the Place de l'Abbaye d'Ainay in Lyon's 2nd arrondissement, this new edition will take place from 15 to 18 July 2025 and will feature 600 chairs. With the theme of ‘Fighting against oblivion’, the festival is an opportunity to (re)discover films in the open air, in their original subtitled versions: Aftersun by Charlotte Wells, Memento by Christopher Nolan, Goodbye Lenin! by Wolfgang Becker (in German), Porco Rosso by Hayao Miyazaki (in Japanese).
L’été en cinémascope, the open-air cinema event in Lyon 8e
From 24 June to 28 August 2025, the Institut Lumière invites the people of Lyon to (re)discover a selection of great films that have marked the history of cinema. As you may have guessed, L'été en cinémascope is back on the Place Ambroise-Courtois. Discover films and great classics : Mary at Any Price by Bobby and Peter Farrelly (15th July), Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton (19th August) and Valerie Faris, Moulin Rouge by Baz Lhurmann (26th August).
Foreign films are shown in original version with French subtitles. We strongly advise you to come early to get good seats. Bring chairs or cushions to make yourself comfortable.

Enjoy summer in Villeurbanne and its open-air cinemas
The summer programme "Vivez l'été" invites residents to enjoy cultural events, sports initiations, concerts and open-air cinemas from 5 July to 30 August 2025. Two of the screenings will be in their English version with French subtitles : Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson (13th July) and Jumanji by Joe Johnson (the 25th of July in Stade Séverine).
