On Wednesday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m., the Institut Lumière is pleased to welcome Jacques Aumont, one of France’s leading scholars and authors specializing in film studies. To mark the release of his new book *À quoi sert le cinéma?*, he will engage with the audience on a topic that is more relevant than ever:
“Thinking About Cinema in 2026.”

A film critic, academic, and author of numerous works on cinema, he is a leading figure at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University, the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts.

Combining reflection with the pleasure of the big screen, this evening aims to bring together the analysis of images with the cinematic experience, in a setting that is both convivial and stimulating.

Discussion followed by a screening of Steven Spielberg’s *The Fabelmans*
(United States, 2022, 2 hours 31 minutes, color)
