In a single playful and generous movement, Moya is both a spectacular performance and a portrait of a generation. ‘Moya’ is a Zulu word meaning spirit, air, soul and wind. It is a driving force of life capable of bringing out the best in everyone, echoing the philosophy of the Zip Zap school, which has been based in Cape Town for 30 years. The show brings together an impressive array of circus techniques – aerial silks, Cyr wheel, juggling, bouncing balls, trapeze, aerial lifts – as well as various South African dances, to tell the story of the characters and their longings for escape, connection, fulfilment and brotherhood.
