On the site on which cinematography was born, the museum presents the story of the Lumière Brothers’ inventions thanks to projections and interactive features on four floors of the Château Lumière, the home of Antoine, father of the two famous inventors.

The Lumière Institute was created in 1982 in the "art nouveau/art deco" castle built between 1899 and 1901 where the Lumière family lived.

Over four floors and 21 rooms, you'll find a scientific and historical journey exploring the history of Louis Lumière's invention of the cinematograph in 1895, including screenings of Lumière films with commentary, early cameras, color and 3D photographs, unusual objects, and other inventions.

A movie theater, "Le Hangar," was installed in the garden. This is where the first film was made. At the time, it was the largest photographic plate factory in Europe.

A guided tour is offered every day at 3 p.m. during school holidays. Book and DVD publishers. Library, film library, media library. Shop.
