Haven't you visited the Caverne du Pont d’Arc yet? This reproduction opened in 2015 and gives the public the chance to wonder at a UNESCO listed treasure.

La Caverne du Pont d'Arc

Forget any preconceptions you may have about reality versus replica: once inside, the magic takes over. Enjoy exploring a place that now reveals its age-old artworks, having hidden them for thousands of years. After just a few minutes, you will completely forget that you are not in a real cave as even the most insignificant lumps and bumps are absolutely identical to the original!

The Chauvet-Pont d'Arc cave was discovered in 1994 and is home to over 1,000 paintings, including some of the oldest ever discovered. Dated between 30,000 and 32,000 years old, it was sealed off by a landslide around 20,000 years ago, which explains why it was in such exceptionally good condition when it was discovered.

Admire the techniques, inventiveness and dexterity of our ancestors and wonder at the large fresco featuring lions and measuring 12 metres in length. What could have motivated the artists to paint these 92 moving animals? Even today, we still cannot be certain about the meaning and purpose of these frescoes!

Continue your tour by visiting the Galerie de l’Aurignacien, a perfectly preserved site where you can learn about people's everyday lives in prehistoric times. An unmissable and exciting day out for all ages!
