2024 Olympics events in Lyon

Home of the local football team Olympique Lyonnais (OL), Groupama Stadium is getting ready for the Olympic Games, with five men’s matches and six women’s matches, including two with the French women's national team. Argentina will play two pool matches, offering a chance to see rising South American stars, as well as Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, who should be in the squad.

In the knock-out phases, the stadium in Décines will host two quarter-finals and two semi-finals in the men’s and women’s competitions, including a women’s bronze medal game. 

How to get to Groupama Stadium during the Olympics?

If possible, use public transport to go to the stadium. Special shuttle services will be running from the two stations on match days.

You can also take the T5 tramway to the stop ‘Eurexpo’ and then a bus to the stadium.

If you would like to drive to the stadium, the complex has a car-sharing platform ‘StadiumGO’, which is a good way to save money and do your bit for the environment.

Lastly, Groupama Stadium has several Velo’V bike-rental stations to come from the city centre. It takes about 45 minutes to cycle from Part-Dieu station.

Lyon, a training ground for athletes

Before the competitions begin, some of Lyon’s facilities will serve as training centres for three national delegations. Halle Diagana will welcome the Armenian athletics team, while the Taiwanese and Japanese artistic gymnastics teams will be training at Vorontzov gymnasium.

Lyon is not the only city in the region looking forward to receiving Olympic athletes, as Saint-Étienne (Geoffroy-Guichard stadium) will also be a host city for six pool matches: three in the men’s and three in the women’s competition, including the French women's national team on 28 July.

To get to the stadium from Lyon, it’s just under an hour’s train journey from Lyon Part-Dieu station, followed by a 15-minute journey on the T3 tramway from Saint-Étienne Châteaucreux railway station. Take the tram towards ‘Terrasse/Hôpital Nord’ and get off at ‘Geoffroy-Guichard–Musée des Verts’, opposite the stadium.
