Discover the hidden side of Lyon’s iconic events complex

Perhaps you have already attended a trade fair, international convention or show held at the Lyon Cité Convention Centre, where you will have had a chance to admire its bright halls, cutting-edge facilities and comfortable lecture theatres...
Now you can visit the venue with a tour guide, who will take you behind the scenes of this architectural masterpiece designed by the great Italian architect Renzo Piano, located on the site of the former Palais de la Foire Internationale de Lyon, between the river Rhône and Tête d’Or Park.

The Lyon Convention Centre was delivered in two phases: the first was inaugurated in 1996 and the second in 2006, with the Amphitheatre, a futuristic section resembling a flying saucer. From the top of the Lyon Convention Centre, you can make out its structure and enjoy a stunning view of the park.

You will be amazed by the multitude of jobs and professions involved in the show and event industry. The tour offers access to the staff areas of the building, from the delivery bay to the changing rooms and technical facilities. Run by GL Events, this convention centre is engaged in a sustainable development approach with the aim of organising environmentally-responsible events.

The tour ends with a chance to see the venue from the artists’ perspective, including the stage of the large Amphitheatre and backstage areas. This convention centre has hosted high-profile events such as the G7 meeting in 1996, the Global Fund conference (to fight HIV, TB and malaria) in October 2019 and the annual Prix Lumière awards ceremony. Each season, the Amphitheatre welcomes international artists for concerts, classical ballets, musical comedies, magic shows and dance performances.

After the artificial stage lighting, you will return to the natural light of day to admire the pond where this unique architectural structure is reflected.
