I highly recommend Kanpai Tours. Olivier Delalande was friendly, knowledgeable, and put together an interesting tour with a combination of architecture, scenery, history, and wine. We stopped at various points to admire the view and had a half-hour wander round Oingt before the two sets of wine tastings. I never felt rushed. I appreciated visiting a small family winery where we could actually talk with the winemaker, and the servings of wine were very generous. The local cheese and crackers were a welcome accompaniment to the second tasting.
Lyon is a city irrigated by 3 great rivers: the Rhône, the Saône and Beaujolais!
Accompanied by your tour guide, in a very comfortable minibus, head off for a half-day to discover the Southern Beaujolais and the wine-growing Pierres Dorées region. (one of the loveliest wine-growing regions in France).
On your way, follow the wine route and cross several picturesque villages built from ochre stone. You'll stop off to visit Oingt (a picturesque medieval town with unforgettable street names, such as Tyr-Laine [Wool carding street], Coupe-Jarret [Leg Ache Street], Trayne-Cul [Always on your backside street]) Admire the magnificent countryside covered with age-old vines and learn the history, geography and terroir of the Pierres Dorées.
Continue on your way and visit a typical Beaujolais wine cellar: discover the region's sparkling wines. With your driver/guide, fine-tune your palate to identify aromas and flavours with a commented tasting session for 3-4 wines. Then hit the road again until you reach a small family-run vineyard where you will meet a passionate winemaker. Visit the vineyard and learn about Beaujolais wine-growing and its "semi-carbonic" wine-making process. Finally, head to the tasting room and taste 4 to 5 Beaujolais wines, including a white Beaujolais, a rosé and two reds. Friendly atmosphere guaranteed!

Beaujolais's golden stone
This bright, ochre-coloured limestone is tinted by iron oxides. In the past, each village had its own quarry. Up until the First World War, some quarries supplied the Beaujolais and Lyon area, and even Switzerland!
